為自己國家的安全倡議

在這週末的慕尼黑安全會議，我與 Hanna Hopka 會面。當歐美的聯盟面臨重大考驗、西方團結日益不確定之際，這位社運領袖持續四處奔走，為自己國家的安全倡議。

Hanna 與她的 ANTS NGO 夥伴們也在為戰後的重建工作做準備，建立更有韌性的民主制度。他們過去十一年的努力證明：健全的公民社會正是國家安全的基石。

在會議中，我們聽到了歐盟委員會主席馮德萊恩，這樣談論烏克蘭的未來：
「一個失敗的烏克蘭將削弱歐洲，也會削弱美國。它將加劇印太地區的挑戰，並威脅我們共同的利益。因為我們看到的是，這個世界的威權主義者正密切關注，入侵鄰國、違反國際邊界，是否不須付出代價。他們正非常仔細地觀察我們選擇採取什麼行動。這是為什麼我們一定要把這件事做對做好。」

這個週末的發展提醒我們，無論你身處歐洲或亞太地區，我們比以往任何時候都更需要攜手合作。

I met with Hanna Hopka on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference this past weekend. At this critical juncture, with growing uncertainty in western solidarity, she is tirelessly advocating for the security of Ukraine.

She and her partners at ANTS also remain hard at work laying the foundations for a more resilient democracy. Their efforts the past eleven years have shown that a strong and vibrant civil society is the true bedrock of national security.

At the conference, we all heard from President von der Leyen of the European Commission. This is what she said about Ukraine’s future:

“A failed Ukraine would weaken Europe, but it would also weaken the United States. It would intensify the challenges in the Indo-Pacific and threaten our shared interests. Because what we have seen is the authoritarians of this world are carefully watching whether there is any impunity if you invade your neighbor and violate international borders… They are watching us very carefully what actions we choose to take. And this is why it is so important that we get this right.”

This weekend was a stark reminder that whether you’re in Europe or the Asia Pacific, we need to work together now more than ever.
